Both being at the barn and learning to ride are great for S. on several fronts. Physically, the core-strengthening is so key for kids with Down Syndrome, and the many steps involved in learning to ride grows her confidence and sense of independence in 'what she CAN do'. Monarch Equestrian has blessed me in many ways and gives me the means to follow my dreams. Ever since I was seven and I decided I wanted to ride horses, I have wanted to compete in jumping. I began by riding Western, but I knew my heart really belonged in the English world. After Collette opened Monarch Equestrian in Banner Elk, English riding became accessible in this area. When I started taking lessons with Collette, my life was forever changed. I am now finally learning to ride English and jump. We have started to show in Hunter shows and I have found a horse, Rosie, that I have begun to work with extensively, and now we share a special bond. (Though all of the horses have a special place in my heart!) As soon as I walk through the barn doors, I am wrapped in a community of loving people that all share my passion. From the horses to the people, Monarch Equestrian truly is one in a million! I can't thank everyone here enough for helping me along the way, but especially Collette for helping me become the rider and person I am today. I have to start by saying I am so happy to have found Collette! I had the opportunity to grow up riding and competing with some amazing trainers in North and South Carolina and was seeking a stable for my daughter to ride with that would provide the same amazing experiences I had growing up. We have found that in Monarch Equestrian! She has provided my daughter with amazing instruction and support that has allowed her to grow into a competitive rider who is gaining confidence in herself, all while loving the amazing horses at the barn.
